# Cron Job Connection

> Configure the HTTP endpoint, method, timeout, headers, and project for a cron job.

Select **New Cron Job** and add the endpoint details.

| Field | What it controls |
| - | - |
| **Job name** | The label shown in the job list and run history. |
| **Method** | <code>GET</code>, <code>POST</code>, <code>PUT</code>, <code>PATCH</code>, or <code>DELETE</code>. |
| **Request URL** | The public <code>http</code> or <code>https</code> endpoint Pxxl calls. |
| **Timeout** | How long Pxxl waits, from 1 to 30 seconds. |
| **Headers** | Optional name and value pairs sent with every request. |
| **Project** | An optional project association. |

## Authenticate the endpoint

Use a header instead of placing a secret in the URL:

```bash theme={null}
curl -X POST https://api.example.com/jobs/refresh \
  -H 'Authorization: Bearer YOUR_CRON_TOKEN' \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"source":"pxxl-cron"}'
```

Pxxl stores configured headers as protected job credentials. Your endpoint should verify the header before starting work.

## Create the job

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add request details">
    Enter the name, method, public URL, and timeout.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Test the URL">
    Use **Test URL** to check that Pxxl can reach the host before saving the job.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add headers and a schedule">
    Add only the headers the endpoint needs, then continue to [Schedules](/cron-jobs/schedules).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the job">
    Pxxl validates the schedule and calculates the next run time.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Connection checklist

* Use a public endpoint that Pxxl can reach.
* Authenticate the request with a header or signature.
* Keep the handler short enough for the configured timeout.
* Make the handler safe to repeat.
* Do not put tokens, passwords, or database URLs in the request URL.
