# Database Settings

> Manage database resources, networking, ownership, and lifecycle actions.

The **Settings** section controls the instance rather than the application code that connects to it.

## Settings areas

| Area | What it controls |
| - | - |
| **General** | Name, engine details, status, and ownership. |
| **Compute** | Assigned CPU, memory, and resource limits. |
| **Transfer** | Moving the database to another supported workspace or owner. |
| **Networking** | Connection and network-related settings for the managed instance. |
| **Danger zone** | Stop, restart, or delete actions. |

## Lifecycle actions

* **Start** makes a stopped database available again.
* **Stop** pauses the service and causes application connections to fail until it is started.
* **Restart** cycles the service when the database needs a controlled restart.
* **Delete** removes the instance after the confirmation flow completes.

Before changing resources, check [Monitoring](/database/monitoring) so you know what is driving the change. Before deleting or making a destructive change, confirm that a current recovery point exists in [Backups](/database/backups).

## After a change

Resource and lifecycle changes can affect availability. Check the database status, reconnect from the project, and review project Live Logs after the change.

Changing database settings does not automatically update application code. If a connection value changes, update the project environment variables and redeploy.
