# Domain Nameservers

> Check DNS authority, switch providers, and complete domain verification.

The **Nameservers** section tells you who currently controls the domain zone and what must change before Pxxl can verify it.

## DNS providers

| State | What you can do |
| - | - |
| **Pxxl DNS** | Create and edit records in the [DNS](/domains/dns) section. |
| **External DNS** | Keep records at the current provider. Pxxl can show live values but cannot edit them. |
| **Pending verification** | Follow the record or nameserver instructions shown by Pxxl. |

## Switch to Pxxl DNS

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Nameservers">
    Select the domain and open **Nameservers** to see the Pxxl nameserver values.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Update the registrar">
    Replace the current nameservers at the domain registrar with the values shown by Pxxl.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify the setup">
    Wait for the registrar change to propagate, then select **Verify Setup**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Manage records in Pxxl">
    After verification, use [DNS](/domains/dns) for record changes.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If you keep external DNS, add the verification record or route record at that provider instead. A connected domain can be visible in Pxxl before its DNS setup is complete, but it cannot serve application traffic until verification succeeds.

## Propagation checks

Nameserver changes can take time because resolvers cache previous answers. Check the live nameserver list in Pxxl and at the registrar before troubleshooting the application route. After a successful change, use [Monitoring](/domains/monitoring) to check certificates and traffic.
