# Environment variables

> Manage project variables without placing secrets in source control.

## Inspect variables

```bash theme={null}
pxxl env list proj_123
pxxl env diff proj_123 --file .env.production
```

## Push a file

```bash theme={null}
pxxl env push proj_123 --file .env.production
```

Add `--force` to replace remote variables instead of merging them.

```bash theme={null}
pxxl env push proj_123 --file .env.production --force
```

  Do not commit `.env` files containing production secrets.
