# MCP Settings

> Disable, rotate, or remove an MCP connection safely.

Use **Settings** on an MCP connection to control its access lifecycle.

| Action | Result |
| - | - |
| **Disable** | Stops the key from authenticating immediately while keeping the connection record. |
| **Generate new key** | Invalidates the previous key immediately and gives you a replacement once. |
| **Delete** | Revokes the key and removes the connection's request history and monitoring data. |

## Rotate a key

<Steps>
  <Step title="Prepare the client">
    Open the client configuration or secret manager so you can replace the key without leaving the connection offline longer than necessary.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Generate a new key">
    Select **Generate new key**. The old key stops working immediately.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save and reconnect">
    Store the replacement, update the client, and run a test request.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | Check |
| - | - |
| **401 Unauthorized** | Confirm the key is current and sent in `Authorization` or `X-Pxxl-MCP-Key`. |
| **403 Access denied** | Confirm the scope and resource allowlist in [Permissions](/mcp/permissions). |
| **The old key stopped working** | A rotation or disable action invalidated it. |
| **No tools appear** | Reconnect the client and run `initialize` and `tools/list`. |
| **Browser preflight fails** | Confirm the client sends the required HTTP headers and uses an allowed origin. |

Keep MCP keys in secret storage, give each integration its own connection, and rotate a key as soon as it may have been exposed.
